Final Post from Tuscaloosa

A special thanks to NIRSA, the NCCS Staff, players, coaches, fans, representatives from all the universities who sent volunteers to this event, to representatives from the University of Alabama University Recreation, Athletic Trainers and the city of Tuscaloosa for a great 2008 NCCS National Soccer Championships.

Championship Dreams Tonight become Championship Realilty Tomorrow

UCSB women's have a chance to repeat tomorrow. Penn St., Dayton and Arizona have something to say about that though.

In the men's, a new champion will be crowned with USC, Colorado St., Ohio St. and Indiana all in contention for the national championship.

The Live Blog has heard that all Saturday morning games at 8am have been rescheduled for 9am. This includes games in Women's Open Semifinals, Men's Consolation Semifinals and Men's Open Semifinals.

Also all games at 1pm have been moved to 2pm. This includes games for the Men's Consolation Final, Women's Open Final and Men's Open Final.

Men's Open Division Report

17 Teams will compete for the men's open title. The teams playing are as follows:

Kansas, Towson, Alabama and United States Air Force Academy-Prep School in Pool A.

San Diego State, Minnesota State-Mankato, Central Washington in Pool B.

James Madison, Auburn, Louisiana-Lafayette, Georgia in Pool C.

California, Northern Iowa and Central Florida in Pool D.

Virginia Tech, Iowa State, Villanova, Sanford in Pool E.

19 Teams will compete for the women's open title. The teams playing are as follows:

24 teams in 8-Three Team pools will compete for the national championship. Regions III & VI have 5 teams each. Regions IV & V have 4 teams each. Regions I & II have 3 teams each.

9 of the 16 teams that reached the Round of 16 in 2007 are back (Colorado State, Indiana, Ohio State, Penn State, UCLA, Arizona, UCSB, Minnesota and Wisconsin-Milwaukee). In all 11 teams will return to compete this year from last year's championship division (Texas A&M and Pennsylvania are the others).

13 teams that were not in the championship division last year are here this year: Baylor, Johns Hopkins, Michigan State, North Dakota State, Texas State, Colorado, Florida, Missouri, North Carolina, Oregon, USC, Wisconsin-Eau Claire and Virginia.

University of California-Santa Barbara will be back to defend their championships in the Men's and Women's Championship divisions in 2008. Women's Runner-Up San Diego State is back to challenge for the title. There will be at least a new men's championship match-up as Men's National Finalist in 2007 Texas Tech did not qualify for the Men's championship division this year.

Whoa Nellie, let me tell ya about AL-A-BA-MA!! We are live at Tuscaloosa for the 2008 NCCS National Soccer Championships. Practices are on going in preparation for the opening rounds of the tournament that begin tomorrow. More to follow.
